01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Just steps from the north exit of Higashi-Jujo Station, a climb up a narrow flight of stairs to the 2nd floor reveals a dining room far more spacious than the street outside suggests. Neatly arranged with comfortable tables, Maruwa offers a reassuring atmosphere where anyone from solo lunchgoers to evening groups can settle in with ease.
Lunchtime draws diners in search of affordable, substantial set meals. Dishes built to accompany bowls of white rice include sets featuring 3 thick, crisp-fried horse mackerel fillets and twice-cooked pork brought to the table sizzling hot. The broad roster also spans mixed gomoku yakisoba noodles livened up with a splash of vinegar over savory soy sauce notes, robust stir-fried pork and eggplant, beef steak sets, and pork tonkatsu, giving diners plenty of ways to match their appetite. After a hearty meal, guests can take a quiet breather over a cup of self-service coffee.
Come evening, the space takes on a lively izakaya mood, with patrons unwinding over cold draft beer and drinks. Fragrant Chinese dishes such as black-vinegar sweet and sour pork, yurinchi fried chicken, and handmade pan-fried gyoza share the menu with classic pub snacks like grilled squid and french fries, making it easy to order a few small plates to share. Open continuously from lunchtime through late evening and continuing to serve set meals after dark, the shop welcomes impromptu visits whether for a relaxed late dinner or a casual drink with friends.
